LIFE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL - TRANSITION CONFERENCE & EXPO
For students with a disability, the transition from high school to adult services is often a rocky path. Students with moderate to severe intellectual or physical disabilities and their families have to understand what will take the place of school once it's gone. Will the young adult work? Will he be part of a recreational day program? It’s even more complicated just trying to understand the various government assistance programs such as SSI and Medicaid Waivers.
On Saturday, March 5th in Griffin, the Metro South Regional Transition Council is hosting an all day Transition Conference to educate and inform families on the choices a student has after high school. Conference sessions include SSI, Medicaid Waivers, Employment, and Guardianship. Sessions start at 9AM and run until 1PM.
From 8AM to noon, a Disability Expo will be open. The Expo features key agencies and organizations who support youth and young adults with disabilities.
The event will be held at Griffin High School, 1617 West Poplar Street, Griffin, GA 30224 . Doors open at 8:00. The event is free and open to the public. No childcare is available.
The Metro South Regional Transition Council is an 8 county collaborative representing Butts, Fayette, Henry, Lamar, Newton, Pike, Spalding, and Upson counties. They work collaboratively to assist students with disabilities and their families in becoming more productive citizens as they transition from school to adulthood.
